Monas (National Monument) Jakarta

Standing at 132 meters and finished with 35 kilograms of gold, this impressive monument is Jakarta’s most famous landmark. Construction began in 1961 of President Sukarno, but not completed until 1975, under President Suharto. The monument has several museums. Liberty Hall representing the Indonesian struggle for independence through a series of dioramas, whereas the Hall of Contemplation displays the original Declaration of Independence of the documents and sound recordings. Elevator takes one to the observation deck overlooking panoramic views of the city. Admission is free.
